FIRST PITCH...
- Fresh off its first ever win at the College World Series, Texas Tech returns to TD Ameritrade Park for another elimination game Thursday when the Red Raiders face Coastal Carolina in a 7 p.m. first pitch on ESPN2.
- The Red Raiders are coming off a 3-2 victory Tuesday over top-seeded Florida. The win marked Texas Tech's first ever at the College World Series as the Red Raiders benefited from seven shutout innings from Davis Martin as well as a two-run homer from Eric Gutierrez.Â
- Texas Tech is the only remaining national seed in the College World Series after the Red Raiders eliminated top-seeded Florida on Tuesday afternoon. No. 3 seed Miami was previously eliminated Monday by U.C. Santa Barbara. The Red Raiders, who are the No. 5 seed, earned a national seed for the first time since the NCAA went to its current format (Super Regionals) in 1999.
- This is Texas Tech's second appearance all-time at the College World Series as the Red Raiders also advanced to Omaha in 2014. Tech is one of seven programs nationally to advance to Omaha twice over the past three seasons.Â
- Texas Tech and Coastal Carolina will be meeting for the first time in program history on Thursday evening. Tech is 8-1 all-time against current Big South Conference members.Â
- Texas Tech is a perfect 4-0 in elimination games during the NCAA Championship as the Red Raiders topped Dallas Baptist, 5-3, in the regional round before dropping East Carolina, 5-3 and 11-0, to conclude the NCAA Lubbock Super Regional. Tech improved its record with a 3-2 victory Tuesday over top-seeded Florida.Â
- Tim Tadlock, the Big 12 Coach of the Year and a finalist for the Skip Bertman National Coach of the Year Award, is the first skipper in Big 12 history to lead a program to Omaha twice in his first four seasons.
INSIDE THE COASTAL CAROLINA SERIES
- Texas Tech will be facing Coastal Carolina for just the first time in program history on Thursday.Â
- The Red Raiders are 8-1 all-time against current members of the Big South Conference. Texas Tech has a 5-1 record against Campbell and a 3-0 mark against UNC Asheville.Â
- Texas Tech has not faced a member of the Big South Conference since 2006 when the Red Raiders met both Campbell and UNC Asheville. Tech has never faced a member of the Big South during the NCAA Championship.
