Crisp Qualifies For 800m Final At USATF Junior Championships

CLOVIS, Ca. – Texas Tech track & field kicked off day one of the USATF Junior National Championships on Friday, June 24, with a pair of fourth-place finishes and a finals qualifying spot at Veteran's Memorial Stadium in Clovis, California.
Vincent Crisp kicked off the day for the Red Raiders in the prelims of the 800-meter run. Crisp doubled around the track and placed second in heat three at 1:49.91. The heat winner, plus the next best five times earned a spot in the final, with Crisp's time sitting fifth overall to send him to the championship race.Crisp will take off around the track at 10:10 p.m. CDT on Saturday.
Brandon Bray posted a fourth-place finish in the men's pole vault. Passing the first two bars, Bray checked in at 5.10m/16-8.75 and cleared the bar on his first attempt. He would also successfully make it over 5.20m/17-0.75 on his first jump, before bowing out after being unable to clear 5.30m/17-4.5.
Charles Brown also picked up a fourth-place mark in the men's long jump. After fouling his first two attempts, Brown got on the board with his best jump of the day by hitting the sand at a distance of 7.67m/25-2 on his third attempt. He missed second place by just an inch and a half. Day two of the USATF Junior Championships begins for the Red Raiders at 5:30 p.m. CDT on Saturday, June 25, with Kaylee Hinton in the heptathlon. Along with Crisp's final, Brown will take a crack at the triple jump and will be joined by incoming freshman Justin Hall. Two other newcomers, Norman Grimes & Ardran Carr will run in the prelims of the 400-meter hurdles.
