Hinton Wraps Heptathlon, Crisp Advances In 800 Meters

Kaylee Hinton finished the pieces of a new personal-best in the heptathlon on Friday.
BYDGOSZCZ, Poland – Texas Tech track & field's Kaylee Hinton completed competition in the heptathlon, while Vincent Crisp began his quest for a medal at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships on Friday, July 22, at Zawisza Stadium.
Hinton started the day in 11th after having her best day one total (3,309 points) on Thursday behind a pair of personal-bests. She began Friday's competition in the long jump with a mark of 5.66m/18-7, picking up 747 points. Her new total of 4,056 moved her down to 13th as she prepared for the javelin competition.
She improved from her opening mark of 31.21m/102-4 in the javelin to 33.23m/109-0 on her third attempt to score 538 points. Her best throw was only eight feet off her personal-best in the event, giving her a tally of 4,594 points heading into the last event.
In the 800 meters, Hinton finished fourth in her heat and 13th overall with a time of 2:25.17, scoring 755 points to give her a one point personal-best of 5,349 for the championships. It passes her previous best set on April 21 at the Kansas Relays (5,348) and put her in 16th in the final standings.
Sandwiched in between Hinton's events in the heptathlon, Vincent Crisp ran in the opening round of the 800 meters. Crisp got out to a strong start, posting the fastest split of anyone in the five heats at 53.12, but he would fall back to sixth in his heat, crossing the finish line at 1:49.32. His time would hold up as the second-fastest among non-automatic qualifiers and ninth overall in the field to advance.
Crisp will return to the track on Saturday, July 23, at 10:50 a.m. CDT for the 800-meter semifinals. The top two in each heat plus the next fastest two will advance to the final on Sunday, July 24, at 10:10 a.m. CDT.
