Crisp Places 15th In 800-Meter Semifinal Saturday

Vincent Crisp wraps the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships on Saturday in the 800-meter semifinal.
BYDGOSZCZ, Poland – Texas Tech track & field's Vincent Crisp completed the Red Raiders' time at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships on Saturday, July 23, at Zawisza Stadium.

Starting in lane five of heat two, Crisp circled the track and closed the race with a strong final 150 meters, crossing the finish line in fourth with a time of 1:48.63. The top five finishers were all within 0.61 seconds within each other, but would keep Crisp from advancing to the final, placing 15th overall.

In 2016, Crisp racked up four All-Big 12 honors, placing fourth in both the indoor and outdoor 800-meter finals at the conference championships, as well as fourth (indoor) and third (outdoor) on the 4x400-meter relay. He also helped Texas Tech qualify for the NCAA Championships in the mile relay after putting together the fastest time of the season at 3:04.87, where Tech earned second team All-America honors.

At the USATF Junior National Championships, Crisp won gold in the 800 meters after notching a personal-best 1:46.97, sending him to Poland to represent the United States in the event.

The next event on the docket for members of Texas Tech track & field is the 2016 Olympics from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which kick off with the opening ceremonies on Aug. 5.
