Artac, Zucchetti Qualify For U.S. Amateur Championship
July 28, 2016 | Men's Golf
The pair of Red Raiders will play for bids in two majors in late August
LUBBOCK, Texas – Red Raider golfers Federico Zucchetti and Wes Artac qualified for the 2016 U.S. Amateur Championship last Monday at the Rawls Course, in Lubbock.
Â
Zucchetti (-5) and Artac (-5) took the top two spots in a 60-player field, earning the qualifications into the 2016 U.S. Amateur Championship, which will be held Aug. 15-21, 2016, at Oakland Hills Country Club, in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
Â
The winner of the U.S. Amateur earns automatic berths into the 2017 versions of the Masters and the U.S. Open. If either were to win, he would become the second Red Raider in history to participate in the Masters (Matias Dominguez, 2015)
Â
Zucchetti and Artac were key members of Tech's 15th-straight NCAA Regional bid this past May. At the Big 12 Championships, both Artac and Zucchetti barely missed out on All-Big 12 honors, taking 11th and 12th, respectively. It would have been the second-straight All-Big 12 performance for Artac.
