Red Raiders In The NFL: Preseason Update

LUBBOCK, Texas --Â The NFL preseason is in full swing and there are currently 12 Red Raiders participating in preseason action as the 2016 regular season approaches.

Jace Amaro – New York Jets
Coming off a 2015 season lost to injury, Jace Amaro has been one of the standout players throughout training camp for the Jets … Amaro will look to build off an impressive 2014 rookie campaign, in which he hauled in 38 passes for 345 yards while hitting paydirt twice … Amaro was the Jets' second-round pick (49th overall) in the 2014 NFL Draft.Danny Amendola – New England Patriots
Amendola enters the 2016 season as one of the more consistently-producing slot receivers in the NFL … He is coming off a 2015 season in which he caught 65 passes, gained 648 yards and scored three touchdowns, to go along with 448 kick and punt return yards … In seven NFL seasons, Amendola has caught 342 passes for 3,207 yards and scored 13 touchdowns … On top of that, he has hauled in three career postseason touchdowns, including a score in Super Bowl XLIX … Amendola was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2008.Micah Awe – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Awe signed as an undrafted free agent with Tampa Bay this summer … recorded two tackles in his lone preseason appearance against Philadelphia … Awe was one of five team captains elected for the 2015 season, starting in each of Tech's 13 games … led the team with 126 tackles and also had a team-leading 77 solo tackles.Le'Raven Clark – Indianapolis Colts
As Indianapolis breaks camp, Clark, the third-round draft pick, is slated as the team's backup right tackle … Clark was the first of three Red Raiders to hear their names called in the 2016 NFL draft, going at No. 82 overall … The Colts are currently allowing just one sack per game during their preseason slate … Clark started all 51 games of his Red Raider career, and his senior year he was named a CBS Sports second team All-American.Michael Crabtree – Oakland Raiders
Crabtree is entering his eighth NFL season, the second of which with the Oakland Raiders … he is coming off one of the best seasons of his career in 2015, catching 85 passes for 922 yards and scoring nine touchdowns … so far this preseason, Crabtree has three catches for 42 yards … Crabtree played two seasons at Texas Tech (2007-08), where he became the first receiver in collegiate history to win the Biletnikoff Award twice, before the 49ers selected him with the 10th overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft.Michael Crabtree made an impressive catch on the sideline.

Cody Davis – Los Angeles Rams
Davis is coming off a 2015 campaign in which he played every game for the Rams, between special teams and defensive duties … Davis has one tackle so far this preseason, the team's first games in Los Angeles … Davis and Red Raider teammate Bradley Marquez are currently being featured on the popular HBO "Hard Knocks" series … Davis was a four-year letterman with the Red Raiders (2009-12) and then signed as an undrafted free agent with the Rams in 2013.Jakeem Grant – Miami Dolphins
Jakeem Grant has gotten off to a hot start in Miami, going from being the buzz of training camp to backing it up with his play in the first preseason game, racking up 181 all-purpose yards (68 receiving, 53 kick return, 60 punt return) in a 27-10 win over the New York Giants … Grant was Miami's sixth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft after a senior year at Tech in which he averaged 181 all-purpose yards per game which ranked fourth nationally, and ranked fourth nationally with 1,017 kickoff return yards and fifth with two kickoff return touchdowns … CBS Sports tabbed him as a second team All-American.The story behind Jakeem Grant. https://t.co/msDYROfaN6

Branden Jackson -- Oakland Raiders
Jackson signed a free agent deal with the Raiders this spring and made an impact in his first preseason appearance, swatting a pass at the line of scrimmage and registering a tackle in a win over Arizona ... Jackson finished his Red Raider career having started in 38 games and recording 11 sacks ... he was a team captain for the 2015 season. ÂAnother Branden Jackson play. Kids having a good night.

Bradley Marquez – Los Angeles Rams
In 2015, Bradley Marquez hauled in his first NFL reception and made a litany of important special teams plays for the Rams … he has one catch so far this preseason after finishing last season with 13 catches for 88 yards … Marquez and Red Raider teammate Cody Davis are currently being featured on the popular HBO "Hard Knocks" series … Marquez played four seasons at Texas Tech (2010-14) before the Rams signed him as an undrafted free agent in the spring of 2015.Pete Robertson – Seattle Seahawks
Robertson agreed to a free agent deal with Seattle this spring, and has made two appearances so far in the preseason, but has yet to record a tackle … in 2015, Robertson led the Red Raider defense with five sacks and three quarterback hurries, concluding his career ranked fifth among Red Raider career sack leaders with 21.0, after leading the Big 12 in 2014 with 12.0 sacks … was an All-Big 12 first team selection in 2014.LaAdrian Waddle – New England Patriots
Waddle is entering his first season with the New England Patriots, after being with the Lions his entire NFL career … in 2015, after missing the first two games of the season recovering from off season knee surgery, Waddle came back strong for Detroit, earning a starting spot for the rest of the season … Waddle played four seasons at Tech (2009-12) before being signed by the Lions as an undrafted free agent.DeAndre Washington – Oakland Raiders
Although he was a fourth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Washington has made his presence felt in Oakland and is moving up the depth chart, now battling for the backup running back job … Washington had an impressive preseason debut for Oakland, compiling 43 rushing yards, a 32-yard reception and recording a 31-yard return on the opening kickoff … Washington was among the top running backs in the country in 2015 ... finished the season ranked second in the Big 12 Conference with 1,492 rushing yards ... was the first Red Raider running back to register back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons since former Doak Walker Award winner Byron Hanspard in 1995 and 1996.Check the :06 mark of this video...
