Lady Raiders Foreign Tour: Aug. 24

BARCELONA, Spain --Â The Lady Raiders spent their last full day abroad in Barcelona on Wednesday. With a full recap, here is No. 20, Brittany Brewer.
Today, we started off with a great morning of sleeping in, then we headed off to see the famous Sagrada Familia before lunch! The Sagrada Familia was absolutely beautiful. The detail of the cathedral is mind-blowing, and only two of the four facades are complete. The first facade was built and sculpted in the lifetime of the original artist and visionary, Gaudi. This facade represented the birth of Christ. It was joyous, detailed, and faced the rising sun to represent the beginning.
The second facade was no-less impressive, but very different. It was not sculpted by Gaudi himself, but was still an original plan of his. This facade represents the death and resurrection of Christ. It was solemn, plain, and barren. It portrayed the many different events leading up to the crucifixion.
The inside of the Sagrada Familia was just as detailed as the outside, consisting of stained glass, many aspects of symbolism, and towering arches. The tour of the Sagrada Familia was especially memorable and we are so thankful to have gotten to see not only an important piece of art, but of history.
After the tour of the cathedral, we headed straight to Barcelona Beach! A group of us, including myself, went parasailing and got to see an aerial view of the sea and city of Barcelona. It was unforgettable! We also hung out at the clear, blue waters of the beach. We ended the day with dinner at an amazing restaurant with amazing views of the city of Barcelona!
Our last day of the foreign tour was no doubt a great ending!
Tomorrow, the Lady Raiders return to Lubbock. Their season beigns with an exhibition game on Nov. 6, against Midwestern State.
