Garcia Moves Into Third at South American Amateur

Garcia fired an even-par 72 second round Friday to move into third place
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech freshman golfer Sofia Garcia put together another solid round at the South American Amateur Championship on Friday as she fired an even-par 72 at the Martindale Country Club in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The even-par card moved Garcia into sole possession of third place entering Saturday's third round of the 72-hole tournament. She trails the duo of Isabella Fierro and Delfina Acosta, who are tied for the tournament lead at 5-under-par overall.

Garcia, who opened the tournament with a 1-under 71 on Thursday, is one of just four players to shoot an even-par card or better in both rounds so far this week. The 51-player remains tight atop the leaderboard as 10 players are at even par or better overall.

Garcia, the lone freshman on the Lady Raider roster, is aiming to defend her South American Amateur Championship title as she has won each of the past two tournaments. She is looking to become the first ever three-time winner of the event.
