Each week, texastech.com recaps the performances of Red Raiders currently playing in the NFL. This week, there was a historic first win, another Michael Crabtree touchdown, a phenomenal play by Cody Davis, and an early statement from Branden Jackson with his new team.
Anthony Lynn - Head Coach, Los Angeles Chargers
Week 5 Matchup: Los Angeles 27, New York 22
Lynn picked up his first win as an NFL head coach as the Chargers took down the Giants, 27-22. After a series of close losses, the Chargers fought back late for a road win, sealing it with a late interception of Eli Manning ... Lynn was a Red Raider running back from 1988-1991, and was an All-SWC selection in 1990 … He was also a member of the back-to-back Super Bowl Champion Denver broncos in 1997 & 1998.Â
Danny Amendola - Wide Receiver, New England Patriots
Week 5 Matchup: New England 19, Tampa Bay 14
Amendola continues to have a strong season, after compiling 128 all-purpose yards on Thursday night (77 receiving, 51 return), punctuated by a 40-yard punt return ... Amendola has caught 388 passes for 3,719 yards and scored 18 touchdowns in his NFL career … On top of that, he has hauled in four career postseason touchdowns, including scores in both Super Bowl XLIX and Super Bowl LI … Amendola was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2008.
Le'Raven Clark - Offensive Lineman, Indianapolis Colts
Week 5 Matchup: Seattle 26, San Francisco 23 (F/2OT)
Clark was on the field for two offensive snaps and six spceial teams snaps on Sunday as Indianapolis picked up its second win of 2017 ... Clark was the first of three Red Raiders to hear their names called in the 2016 NFL draft, going at No. 82 overall … Clark started all 51 games of his Red Raider career, and his senior year he was named a CBS Sports second team All-American ... He was the third-round pick of the Colts in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Michael Crabtree -Â Wide Receiver, Oakland Raiders
Week 5 Matchup: Baltimore 30, Oakland 17
Crabtree returned to the lineup Sunday in a big way with 6 catches for 82 yards, including a 41-yard touchdown in the second quarter. He is currently tied for fourth in the NFL with 4 TD receptions this season ... He has 540 receptions for 6,504 yards and 47 regular-season touchdowns in his professional career … Crabtree played two seasons at Texas Tech (2007-08), where he became the first receiver in collegiate history to win the Biletnikoff Award twice, before the 49ers selected him with the 10th overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft.
Cody Davis -Â Defensive Back, Los Angeles Rams
Week 5 Matchup: Seattle 16, Los Angeles 10
Davis played 45 snaps at free safety on Sunday, and responded to the extra time with his best game of the year. He recorded four tackles and snagged an acrobatic interception to thwart a Seattle trick play, the second pick of his NFL career ... Davis was a four-year letterman with the Red Raiders (2009-12) and then signed as an undrafted free agent with the Rams in 2013.
Jakeem Grant -Â Wide Receiver, Miami Dolphins
Week 5 Matchup: Miami 16, Tennessee 10
Miami rebounded from a tough two-week stretch with a 16-10 home win on Sunday. Grant piled up 63 return yards and also had a reception. He was targeted one other time, but Jay Cutler's pass was just a bit high and went off Grant's fingertips for what would have been a touchdown. ... Grant was Miami's sixth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft after a senior year at Tech in which he averaged 181 all-purpose yards per game which ranked fourth nationally, and ranked fourth nationally with 1,017 kickoff return yards and fifth with two kickoff return touchdowns … CBS Sports tabbed him as a second team All-American.
Kerry Hyder, Jr. - Defensive Line, Detroit Lions
Week 5 Matchup: Carolina 27, Detroit 24
After a breakout performance in 2016, where he led the Lions in sacks, Hyder suffered a torn Achilles and will miss the 2017 season. Hyder joined the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2014 after a Red Raider career which included a litany of All-Big 12 honors in 2013 and 2014.
Branden Jackson - Defensive Line, Seattle Seahawks
Week 5 Matchup: Seattle 16, Los Angeles 10
In his first game since being signed off the Seattle practice squad, Jackson responded to the promotion with a pair of tackles and a near-sack of Rams QB Jared Goff ... Jackson was a four-year starter as a Red Raider, collecting 11 sacks during his tenure in Lubbock ... Jackson was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Raiders in 2016.
Patrick Mahomes II - Quarterback, Kansas City Chiefs
Week 5 Matchup: Kansas City 42, Houston 34
The 10th overall pick of the 2017 draft turned heads during the preseason and earned the No. 2 QB job as a rookie behind Alex Smith, who led the Chiefs to a 42-34 win over the Redskins on Sunday night. KC is now 5-0 ... Mahomes was the 10th pick of the 2017 NFL Draft after a 2016 season in which he won the Sammy Baugh Award, led the FBS in total touchdowns and set FBS single-game record for passing yards and total offense.
Bradley Marquez - Wide Receiver, Los Angeles Rams
Week 5 Matchup: Seattle 16, Los Angeles 10
After injuring his knee in a preseason game, Marquez cleared waivers and has been placed on injured reserve by the Rams ... Marquez played four seasons at Texas Tech (2010-14) before the Rams signed him as an undrafted free agent in the spring of 2015.
La'Adrian Waddle - Offensive Lineman, New England Patriots
Week 5 Matchup: New England 19, Tampa Bay 14
Waddle was inactive after picking up his first start of the season two weeks ago ... Waddle played four seasons at Tech (2009-12) before being signed by the Lions as an undrafted free agent.
DeAndre Washington - Running back, Oakland Raiders

For the first time this season, Washington was inactive for the Raiders, due to a hamstring injury ... Washington was the first Red Raider running back to register back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons since former Doak Walker Award winner Byron Hanspard in 1995 and 1996 ... one of five players in school history to rush for over 1,000 yards twice in a career.
Davis Webb - Quarterback, New York Giants
Week 5 Matchup: Los Angeles 27, New York 22
Webb currently holds the No. 3 QB on the Giants' depth chart. He did not record a snap in Sunday's loss ... Webb was the 87th pick (3rd round) of the 2017 NFL Draft by the New York Giants, after a collegiate career that included three years at Texas Tech, two as the starting quarterback.
