October 13, 2017 | Softball
Red Raiders will play four games in Spring, Texas, over the weekend.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech softball closes its fall this weekend with four games in Spring, Texas, at the SK College Classic Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 14-15.
Â
Saturday's slate includes Trinity Valley Community College at 10 a.m. and Sam Houston State at 2 p.m. The Red Raiders wrap things up Sunday with Galveston College at 10 a.m. and Navarro College at 12 p.m.
"We're very excited to play this weekend in the Houston area," head coach Adrian Gregory said. "A large part of our roster, especially our freshmen, are from the area, and it will be a great experience for them to play in front of their family and friends. It will be fun to play a good amount of games and get a lot of innings in. This tournament will wrap up our fall, so we are looking to see where some kids stand closing out this part of our schedule."
Â
Each contest will be played at Collins Park. Fans can access a live stream for fields 1-4 at Collins Park by going here and using the dropdown menus at the top to select 'Softball', 'Facility' and 'Collins Park, Spring Tx.'
Â
The event concludes a seven-game fall for the Red Raiders. Tech began its campaign with a doubleheader sweep of Midland College by a combined score of 18-4, before earning a 12-3 win over Odessa College last Wednesday.
Â
The SK College Classic is in its 24th year of providing high-level competition for colleges during the fall season as well as select softball teams. Other universities competing this weekend include Houston, Texas State, Texas A&M – Corpus Christi and more.
Saturday's matchup with Sam Houston State will mark the first for Texas Tech head coach Adrian Gregory against her former school. Before coming to Tech, Gregory spent four years in Huntsville, Texas, as an assistant coach, where she helped develop the Bearkats into one of the nation's top offensive teams. SHSU finished 24-27 in 2017, including a 14-13 Southland Conference mark.
"I know Coach Brock with Sam Houston very well and look forward to facing off against him," Gregory said. "We welcome the competitiveness of playing another Division I program, but it's just another opponent. We will play Red Raider softball all weekend, and this is our best roster yet."
