Sands Tabs Three During National Signing Period

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech men's golf head coach Greg Sands announced Thursday the signing of three golfers, set to join the Red Raiders for the 2018-19 campaign.
Jansen Smith, Jake Kuwitzky and Markus Braadlie signed national letters of intent over the weekend, and will be Red Raiders next fall. Smith (No. 18) and Kuwitzky (No. 76) are both ranked in the national top 100 of the 2018 class, and Braadlie is in the top 250 of the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
"I could not be more excited about adding these guys," Sands said. "Talented on the course, and champions in the classroom—they are exactly the type of recruits we search for, and I know these three Red Raiders will prove to be phenomenal ambassadors for Texas Tech men's golf, and Texas Tech athletics as a whole."
Jansen Smith
San Angelo, Texas – Central High School
Ranked as the No. 18 recruit nationally in the 2018 class, and the No. 3 player in the state of Texas … 2017 Texas Legends Player of the Year … 2017 U.S. amateur qualifier, where he only missed the cut by two shots … Carded a 9-under 61 on July 20 to win the AJGA Folds of Honor Junior Championship with a 191 … Those scores are the all-time 18-hole and 54-hole AJGA scoring records.
Jake Kuwitzky
McKinney, Texas – Laurel Springs High school
Ranked as the No. 76 recruit nationally in the 2018 class … 2017 U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier … 2017 Jr. PGA Championship qualifier … Took home the title at the 2016 AJGA Valero Championship, and the 2017 LJT Jimmy Demaret … Qualified for the AJGA Jimmy Walker Championship.
Markus Braadlie
Baerum, Norway – Norges Toppidrettsgymnas
No. 248 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings … 2015 European Young Masters Champion … Finished in seventh place at the 2017 Portugese International Amateur … Took fifth place in the 2017 French Boys Championship and sixth place at the Fjallbacka Open, a Nordic League pro tournament … Tallied six wins on the Norway national junior tour, including a junior national title.
The 2017-18 Red raiders, ranked No. 14 in the country, tee off the 2018 spring slate at the Amer Ari Invitational, where they are the defending champs. The tournament will take place Feb. 1-3, at the Waikoloa Kings Course in Kona, Hawaii.
