November 19, 2017 | Men's Golf
EL PASO, Texas -- Texas Tech senior golfers Hurly Long and Fredrik Nilehn will play in the annual Sun Bowl Andeavor All-America Golf Classic tournament, which begins Monday.
The tournament, played at El Paso Country Club, has a star-studded list of past participants including Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.
Â
The first and second rounds of the tournament will take place on Monday, while the final round will tee off on Tuesday. Nilehn and Long will be the first Red Raiders to participate in this event in program history.
Â
Long has enjoyed quite a bit of success in his senior campaign, as the Mannheim, Germany, native posted a Pebble Beach course record 61 in the second round of the Carmel Cup to start the fall season. Long also has 27th-place and t-29th-place finishes on his resume so far in the 2017-18 campaign.
Â
Nilehn has also enjoyed a strong start to his year, finishing in a tie for 13th place at the Carmel Cup, a tie for sixth at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational and a solo eighth-place finish at the Trinity Forest Invitational.
Â
Due to their accomplishments this season, both Nilehn and Long are represented in the International Arnold Palmer Cup Player Rankings. Nilehn, first place, and Long, 11th, join Red Raider Ivan Ramirez, who is currently in 10th place. Nilehn was one of two Red Raiders to make the European Palmer Cup team a year ago.
The tournament is slated for an 8 a.m. start on Monday, and Golfstat will provide live scoring.
