Texas Tech Softball Announces 2018 Schedule

The 50-game slate features 20 home games at Rocky Johnson Field in 2018.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech softball head coach Adrian Gregory and her staff announced the 2018 Red Raider softball schedule Wednesday, which includes 20 home games to be played at Rocky Johnson Field.

The 51-game slate features 17 contests against 2017 NCAA Tournament teams, including three squads that advanced to the 2017 Women's College World Series.

Entering her fourth season at the helm of Texas Tech softball, Gregory will once again test her squad with a powerful nonconference slate that includes five matchups with NCAA Tournament teams from last season. Additionally, Tech will see foes from every Power-5 conference with Purdue from the Big Ten, Oregon State from the PAC-12, Boston College from the ACC and Texas A&M from the SEC.

Texas Tech will play five tournaments during its nonconference portion of the schedule, starting with five games in College Station to open the season. Tech will duel Boston College and Houston in an opening-day doubleheader on Friday, Feb. 9, with first pitch at 10 a.m. The Red Raiders will see their first 2017 WCWS opponent of the season in Texas A&M on Saturday.

After a five-game road stretch at UT Arlington and UCF, Tech gets set for its home opener with Abilene Christian on Wednesday, February 21. Tech then opens the month of March by hosting the eighth-annual Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic Mar. 2-4, featuring New Mexico, Bowling Green and UTSA.

A 10-day trip to the West Coast is next on the docket as Tech competes in tournaments at Cal State Northridge and UC Riverside. The Red Raiders will play 11 games during their stay, including tilts against Oregon State and Purdue.

The Red Raiders will open Big 12 play on the road with defending national champion Oklahoma Mar. 23-25. The Big 12 home slate begins the following week with Oklahoma State coming to Lubbock Mar. 29-31. Baylor visits Apr. 6-8 for the second half of a six-game home stand.

A midweek matchup at Abilene Christian and a weekend at Texas set the stage for senior weekend in Lubbock Apr. 20-22 against Iowa State. The Red Raiders swept the three-game set with the Cyclones in Ames last season. Tech wraps up the regular season at Kansas Apr. 27-29 before getting ready for the Big 12 Championship May 11-12.

Gregory welcomes nine new additions to the roster for 2018, while returning eight letterwinners from 2017. Sophomore pitcher Kassidy Scott is among those returning after a stellar freshman campaign that landed her on the Big 12 All-Freshman Team. Junior infielder Jessica Hartwell looks to build on her breakout 2017 season in which she took home National Fast-Pitch Coaches Association All-Region third team honors. Â
