Soccer Sets 2017 Spring Slate
February 10, 2017 | Women's Soccer
The Red Raiders will host three games at the John Walker Soccer Complex this spring.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech soccer head coach Tom Stone announced the dates for the 2017 spring schedule, which is highlighted by three matches at the John Walker Soccer Complex beginning in February.
Â
The Red Raiders will open with a pair of contests in Lubbock at the end of February, hosting Abilene Christian on Feb. 25 at 1 p.m., followed by West Texas A&M on Feb. 26 at 4 p.m.
Â
Tech will play one match in March, traveling to Bossier City, Louisiana, to take on Northwestern State at 3 p.m on March 4. The Red Raiders will wrap up with two dates in April, the first on the road at New Mexico on April 15 at 2 p.m., before returning home to take on Air Force on April 22 at 10 a.m. to wrap up the fall slate.
Â
"This is an important spring for our team & program as we transition and develop a large number of young players into their new roles, which carry more significant responsibilities both on and off the field," Stone said. "There is a high level of expectation for more veteran players who have played significant minutes and for those who hope to earn those minutes going forward, so this is the time where they have the opportunity to demonstrate their desire and their ability to live up to those expectations. It's no secret that we have signed a terrific class in 2017, so competition for minutes will be at a premium this fall and the spring is when the players we have on campus need to make their mark."
Â
The Red Raiders clinched their fifth-straight NCAA Championship berth in 2016, after posting a 9-9-2 overall record. Tech returns the bulk of their core in 2017, while replacing four seniors from the 2016 squad, including All-Big 12 goalkeeper Lauren Watson. Stone and his staff added 11 during the signing period to reload the Texas Tech offense and bolster the returning stellar defensive unit.
