Tech Moves To Fifth Entering Final Round At PGA West

Texas Tech is one of three teams to go under par on Tuesday
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – Behind one of just three under-par rounds on the day, the No. 5 Texas Tech men's golf team moved up into fifth place overall at The Prestige, on Tuesday, at The Classic Club.
The Red Raiders combined to go two-under on the first three holes of the day, and from there it was a seesaw battle the rest of the way. Tech seemed to alternate birdies and bogeys from there and when the dust settled, the Red Raiders were one-under par for the round, and had moved up into fifth place following Monday's nine-over 293 that had left them in 10th place.
Tech went -3 on the final two holes of the day, including an eagle from Hurly Long on the par-5 eighth.
"The course hasn't yielded many birdies, but I'm proud of the way we played our final nine today," Tech head coach Greg Sands said. "We've stayed the course and now we are in a position where winning this thing is attainable. Can't ask for much more than that."
At +8 for the tournament, Tech is only seven shots off the lead, currently held by No. 16 LSU, who shot the low round of the day, a six-under 278.
Individually, Sandy Scott, who is not factoring into the team score, shot a 67 on Tuesday and stands alone in fifth place overall, at -3. Hannes Ronneblad (-1) joins Scott in the top 10, in a tie for 10th after his even-par 71 on Tuesday.
Tech will begin the final round at PGA West at 10:25 a.m. CT, with Hurly Long leading the way. Live scoring is available via Golfstat.
