Texas Tech tied for second through one round, and Ronneblad leads overall
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 9 Texas Tech men's golf team, led by Hannes Ronneblad, tore it up on the front nine en route to being tied for second place through one round at the Bandon Dunes Championship, in Bandon, Ore.
Tech was sizzling out of the gate, recording 13 birdies and an eagle in the first six holes on the day. Ronneblad led the way with birdies on holes 1, 3, 5 and 6, plus an eagle on No. 4, one of two eagles he registered on the day, on his way to shooting a 65 and holding the overall individual lead at -7.
Ronneblad's 65 was the second of his career, joining the one he shot at the 2014 Lone Star Invitational. That score ties for the seventh-lowest round in Tech history.
After the great start, Tech stumbled a bit on holes 10-12, going a combined 13-over par on those three holes. From there the Red Raiders steadied, going a collective 1-over on the final six holes to finish the day at 5-under, tied for second with No. 21 Colorado. No. 14 Oregon leads the way at 13-under.
Joining Ronneblad in the top 20 individually is Fredrik Nilehn, who shot a 1-under 71 to tie for 18th. Ivan Ramirez fired a 1-over 73, and is tied for 37th. Federico Zucchetti (+2, T47) and Sandy Scott (+5, T71) rounded out the first-round scoring for the Red Raiders.
The Red Raiders will start round two Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. CT, on holes 1-5.
