Red Raiders Hold First Spring Football Practice

LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech football team held its first spring practice of 2017 on Saturday morning inside Jones AT&T Stadium.
It also marked the debut of the new FieldTurf surface, which was installed at the stadium in February.
Current Miami Dolphin Jakeem Grant stopped by to take in practice as the Red Raiders participated in a variety of position drills, 7-on-7 groupings and 11-on-11 full-team sessions, as well as some special teams periods.
The continuity of an offense returning an experienced Nic Shimonek as well as the overwhelming majority of the student-athletes at the skill positions was on display as was a lot of the young talent on defense, particularly that of the mid-year enrollees signed recently signed.
The Red Raiders return to practice tomorrow afternoon, and will continue to hold practices next week before being off for spring break.
