Football Spring Practice Report: Day 2
March 05, 2017 | Football
LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech football team held its second practice of the spring on Sunday, on the new turf at Jones AT&T Stadium.
The team had a walkthrough on the practice fields at the Football Training Facility before heading over to Jones AT&T Stadium for practice.
Practice began with stretching and calisthenics. From there, the first team offense faced off against the first team defense for a series of plays. After that, the team broke off into position groups for a series of various drills.
After the position group session, the team took part in a special teams period, which was followed by team offense and team defense periods and then one-on-one drills pitting the receivers against the defensive backs.
Practice wrapped up with seven-on-seven drills and more 11-on-11 battles between the offense and defense.
The best plays of the day on offense were Nic Shimonek rolling to his right and launching on the run to hit Zach Austin on a long TD pass during a team period, and Jonathan Giles reaching back behind his body to make a great catch in the seven-on-seven session. On defense, Matthew Anunda and Christian Taylor each logged interceptions in the team period, leading the way for a defense that broke up a good amount of passes throughout the day.
The Red Raiders will hold their next practice on Tuesday. Be sure to follow the Red Raiders on Twitter (TexasTechFB), Instagram (TexasTech_FB) and now Snapchat as well (TexasTech_FB).
