Texas Tech goes 1-under on day 2 to move into fifth place
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The No. 7 Texas Tech men's golf team carded the low score of the day on round two at the Southern Highlands Collegiate, in Las Vegas.
The Red Raiders were the only team to go under par on Tuesday, shooting a 1-under 287. In the process, Tech climbed the leaderboard into a tie for fifth place, at 4-over for the tournament.
To begin the day, Tech went 10-over on its first seven holes, but quickly rebounded to go 5-under on the final 10 holes of the day, sparked by Ivan Ramirez carding birdies on four of his final seven holes. Ramirez shot a 68 to move to 1-under on the tournament, tied for 15th.
"I was a lot happier with how we played today," Tech head coach Greg Sands said. "We really hung in there today and stayed patient, and it paid off as we shot the low round of the day. Ivan Ramirez had a phenomenal round and Hannes Ronneblad continued to play well after a great round yesterday. I like where we are heading into the final round."
Ronneblad, after shooting a 1-under 71 on Monday, carded a 2-under 70 to move to -3 for the tournament, tied for fifth overall.
Heading into the final round, the Red Raiders are 11 shots out of the lead and only five shots out of second place.
Final round action begins Wednesday morning, and live scoring is available on Golfstat. For live updates, follow @TTUMensGolf on Twitter and like Texas Tech Men's Golf on Facebook.
