Women’s Tennis Moves to No. 6 in Oracle/ITA Rankings

Lady Raiders jump in rankings after two sweeps

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Texas Tech Women's Tennis team moved up to No. 6 in the latest Oracle/ITA Division I Collegiate Tennis Rankings.

The Lady Raiders jumped two spots in the poll after receiving a No. 8 ranking last week.

Junior Gabriela Talaba dropped to No. 17 in the singles rankings while sophomore Felicity Maltby moved to No. 40 this week. Sophomore Alex Valenstein also moved down in the latest poll as she received a No. 109 ranking.

In doubles, Sarah Dvorak and Sabrina Federici dropped a spot to No. 24 in the country while duo Talaba and Maltby fell to No. 48.

The Lady Raiders defeated two Top 30 teams last weekend to stay undefeated at home. Texas Tech took a 4-0 sweep over No. 22 TCU in a non-conference matchup on Friday before blanking No. 29 Rice, 4-0, on Sunday.

Texas Tech returns to action on Wednesday as they travel to Wichita State for a 2 p.m. match. The Lady Raiders begin the 2017 Big 12 season on Friday when they face Kansas State.
