Griffin and the U.S. soccer team will take on UCLA on Friday, April 14, at 5:30 p.m. in San Diego.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech soccer's Alexandria Griffin, a signee in head coach Tom Stone's latest signing class, was invited to the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team training camp at Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center in San Diego.
Â
Griffin was one of 24 players to be called up by new head coach Jitka Klimkova for the April 8-15 training camp. It is Griffin's first appearance with the U-20 USNT.
Â
"We are thrilled for Ally Griffin to have the experience of USNT training and competition this close to her arrival on campus this summer," Stone said. "Ally has developed to a whole new level over the last two years, breaking high school records and scoring a ton of goals in the ECNL's toughest conference for her Dallas Texans club team.
Â
"We have seen how hard she has worked for this opportunity and are excited she has been identified as a prospect for the U.S. U-20 team. This environment is a new challenge for Ally, but is one she will embrace and certainly learn a lot from."
Â
Griffin headlined Stone's 2017 National Signing Day class as the No. 1 forward in the state of Texas and 12th in the nation by MaxPreps.com. Last season, she earned First Team All-America honors from TopDrawerSoccer.com, as well as Dallas Morning News Offensive Player of the Year after producing a school-record 49 goals.
Â
Her goal total shattered the previous mark by 14, as she recorded at least one tally in 22 of 25 games, helping the Dragons to a 23-2 mark. Griffin notched eight hat tricks, while also serving up 12 assists in 2016. In both 2015 & 2016, she was invited to the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) Nike National ID-2 Training Camp by U.S. Soccer, which featured the top female youth soccer players from across the country. She was also honored with the Texas 5-6A District MVP for her record-breaking season.
