LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech women's golf coach JoJo Robertson has been named the head coach for the United States women's team that will compete this summer in the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup in Nagoya, Japan.
Â
Robertson, now in her eighth year leading the Lady Raiders, will oversee a trio of America's top junior players, two of which that were part of the 2016 squad that claimed the team title. All three players have already signed National Letters of Intent to play at the Division-I level next fall.
Â
"This is such an honor for me to be part of this event," Robertson said. "I could not be more proud to travel and represent the USA. We have a great group of young ladies and I am looking forward to getting to know them and experiencing this with them."
Â
The four-day event runs June 13-16 on Chukyo Golf Club's Ishino Course. This will the first time Robertson has been selected to coach a U.S. golf program.
Â
The Lady Raiders have found consistent success since Robertson was named the fourth head coach in program history prior to the 2009-10 season. Tech has advanced to an NCAA Regional in six of seven seasons under Robertson and are poised to make a seventh appearance this season as the Lady Raiders are currently ranked 27th nationally by Golfweek.
Â
Under Robertson's guidance, Tech has claimed 11 team titles, the most for a head coach in program history. Her tenure has been highlighted by a fifth-place showing at the 2015 NCAA Championships which remains the best finish all-time at Tech.
Â
Tech will look for its first Big 12 Championships title in school history this weekend when the Lady Raiders tee off at the conference tournament Friday morning. The three-day, 54-hole event will be held at The Dominion Country Club in San Antonio, Texas.
