Track & Field Heads to Waco for One-Day Meet

Texas Tech track & field travels to compete at the Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Red Raiders will begin competition in Waco, Texas, at the Michael Johnson Invitational, beginning tomorrow, April 22 at 9 a.m.

Field events are set to begin at 9 a.m. with the running events to follow at 1 p.m.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
Viershanie Latham clinched two school-record triple jump marks at the Horned Frog Invitational. A wind-legal leap of 13.50m/44-3.50 (+1.7) beat out teammate Paetyn Revell's previous school record mark of 13.43m/44-0.75 from 2015. Latham's best-mark of 13.61m/44-8.00 (+3.0) secured her second-place meet finish and the wind-aided school record title. Latham holds a whopping 10 all-time outdoor triple jump marks, four of which from this season alone.

Charles Brown wrangled his second Athlete of the Week honor from the Big 12 conference this outdoor season for his standout performance at the Horned Frog Invitational. Brown is the world leader in the men's wind-aided long jump marks with his 8.30m/27-2.75 leap. This jump is also an all-time school record in the wind-aided long jump category. In Fort Worth, Brown yielded four jumps over eight-meters. The sophomore jumper is the second male track & field athlete in school history to claim two conference titles in the same season, behind Texas Tech great Kennedy Kithuka in his 2013 indoor season.

MULTIS IN LAWRENCE
Three Red Raiders traveled to Lawrence, Kansas, for the Kansas Relays on April 19-20, two of which notched new personal-best heptathlon and decathlon performances. Kaylee Hinton defended her Kansas Relays title with her No. 8 all-time record of 5,372 points. Erin Lopez finished fourth overall in the decathlon, second among attached athletes, with his personal-record 6,509 points.

The Texas Tech men grabbed their second-consecutive top-10 ranking, moving up to No. 8. Divine Oduduru, Charles Brown and Justin Hall were amongst the performances adding to the upward movement. Oduduru made his debut for the Red Raiders in the 4x100 relay and the 200-meter dash where he clocked a 20.45 wind-aided run to claim first. Brown's 8.25m/27-0.75 (+3.9w) replaced his former nation leading mark from Texas Relays, thus increasing his lead in the NCAA. Hall notched a huge personal-best 8.01m/26-3.50 (+3.9) jump to earn the No. 5 nationally ranked spot in the long jump and No. 4 all-time outdoor wind-aided school mark.

Next up, Texas Tech will be hosting back-to-back home meets, the first of which is the Red Raider Shootout on April 28. Participating in the dual-style meet with be Baylor, Nebraska and Wichita State with the field events set to begin at 2 p.m. and the running at 6 p.m.Â
