Softball Drops Sunday Doubleheader at OSU
April 23, 2017 | Softball
Texas Tech will wrap up its 2017 home slate next weekend when it hosts No. 8 Oklahoma at the Rock Friday-Sunday.
Â
The walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh of game three was OSU's second walk-off of the weekend after a walk-off single Saturday gave the Cowgirls (32-17, 11-1) a 2-1 victory. While Friday's win for the Cowgirls was their first over Tech since 2014, the series sweep is OSU's first over Tech in a three-game series since 2009.
"Our kids fought hard," head coach Adrian Gregory said. "It's extremely hard to put your heart ton the line day in and day out and not have things go the way we want. I am proud of our kids today. The class they showed and the high road they took. We will keep fighting like Red Raiders do."
Â
Senior Kierra Miles led Texas Tech (17-26, 4-11) offensively, going 5-8 with a HR, BB and three stolen bases on the weekend. Tech totaled three home runs in the series with freshman Raina O'Neal and sophomore Jessica Hartwell both going yard Sunday.
Â
In game one, Oklahoma State outhit the Red Raiders 10-2 on their way to clinching the series win. The Cowboys grabbed an early 4-0 lead in the first inning and added a run in each of the next three frames before two in the fifth would end it.Â
Â
Tech freshman Raina O'Neal was responsible for Tech's lone run of the game, hitting her Big 12-leading 11th home run of the season in the second inning, a solo shot that made it a 4-1 game.
Â
With Tech trailing 7-1 in the fifth, the Cowgirls had runners on second and third with two outs when a throw to first went wide and a collision at first allowed two runs to score, ending the contest in five innings.
Â
In game two, the Red Raiders struck in the top of the first. Miles led off with a single and promptly stole second before being driven in on a double by senior Susan Welborn.
Â
Tech maintained the lead until the bottom of the second, when OSU worked the bases loaded with no outs and singled in a run to even the game. Scott, making her 13th start in Big 12 play, would walk in a second run before getting the Red Raiders out of the inning.
Â
Sophomore Jessica Hartwell would put the Red Raiders back in front the next half inning, sending a three-run blast to center that gave Tech a 4-2 lead. The home run was her sixth of the season and Tech's Big 12 leading 43rd of the season.
Â
The lead switched hands in the bottom of the fourth as OSU connected on back-to-back home runs, giving the Cowgirls a 5-4 lead, but Tech tied it up in the top of the sixth off a sac fly from sophomore Kiana Workman that scored pinch runner Camaury Washington from third.
Â
Similar to Saturday's seventh inning, Tech got an early base runner and advanced them to second, but was unable to bring the run home. Oklahoma State got a base runner on first and then hit a line drive past a diving Miles in right for the winning run.
