Red Raiders Show Out at Shootout

Steven Champlin and Kyle Collins push for all-time 400-meter runs.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Red Raiders completed their first home meet of the season at the Terry and Linda Fuller Track & Field Complex with 31 personal-best performances and 15 first-place finishes.
The men and women both finished second overall with 188 points each.
Steven Champlin and Kyle Collins gave a show in the men's 400-meter race finishing neck-and-neck with times of 45.01 and 45.06 respectively. These times not only rank No. 5 and No. 6 all-time in Texas Tech outdoor records, but put Champlin and Collins in top-five nationally ranked positions.
Two first-place finishes were achieved by Viershanie Latham as she participated in her last home meet as a Red Raider.
Latham's long jump performance was especially impressive, boasting a best-jump of 6.55m/21-6.00 (+3.8w). This is an almost foot-and-a-half improvement from her previous lifetime-best of 6.15m/20-2.25.
The senior also wrangled a win in the triple jump at 13.66m/44-9.75 (+2.3w).
Charles Brown and Justin Hall both took top-three finishes in the men's long jump. Brown Finished first at 8.13m/26-8.25 (+4.2w) and Hall took third with his jump of 7.82m/25-8.00.
High jump was headed by Zarriea Willis who hit an outdoor-best 1.82m/5-11.50 for first. Cyre Virgo also notched a personal-best at 1.71m/5-7.25.
Marika Brown had a strong 200-meter run, claiming a new personal record with her time of 23.48 (+1.8w).
All women's 400-meter participants had personal-bests. Sara Limp led the pack with her 53.63 run for second, followed by Taylor Rockwell at 54.82 and Adria Parker at 55.32.
Alexis Lewis had a personal-record hammer throw this afternoon, 56.39m/185-00.
Next week the Red Raiders will remain at home for the Masked Rider Open on Saturday, May 6.
