Softball Faces Kansas to Open Big 12 Home Slate

Red Raiders, Jayhawks begin three-game set Friday at 6 p.m.as part of seven-game home stand.
Friday is Hero's Day at the Rock with all first responders receiving discounted admission with a badge. First pitch of the series opener is set for 6 p.m. Saturday marks Tech's annual Strikeout Cancer game with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m., while the series finale begins at noon Sunday.

The Red Raiders (16-18, 3-3) look to continue their solid start to Big 12 play that began with a series sweep of Iowa State in Ames before three tight losses at No. 14 Baylor last weekend. Freshman pitcher Kassidy Scott gave the Red Raiders three solid starts in the circle against the Bears that helped Tech stay within reach of Baylor in all three contests.

Kansas (19-17, 1-5) enters the weekend having lost its last four games. The Jayhawks opened Big 12 play taking one of three at home against Baylor, before getting swept at Oklahoma State last weekend. The Jayhawk offense is led by Junior Jessie Roane, who has started every game and is hitting .350. Sophomore Alexis Reid leads the team with 10 starts in the circle and has a 2.28 ERA.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Texas Tech and Kansas will meet for the 54th time in Friday night's series opener at Rocky Johnson Field. The Red Raiders enter the three-game weekend series trailing Kansas 20-33 in the all-time series record.

Kansas swept the series last year in Lawrence, their first three-game sweep of Tech since 2013. Prior to last season, Tech had won four of the last six games between the two teams, including a series sweep in 2014. Tech took two of three the last time the two squads met in Lubbock.

• The three-game series is part of a seven-game home stand, the longest of the season for the Red Raiders.
• Texas Tech launched Big 12 play with consecutive road trips for the first time since 2006, sweeping Iowa State in Ames before dropping three close contests last weekend at No. 14 Baylor.

• Freshman outfielder Raina O'Neal is second in the Big 12's in home runs with nine this season. She is also tied for sixth nationally among freshmen in home runs.
• Freshman pitcher Kassidy Scott leads all Big 12 freshmen and ranks third overall in innings pitched with 111.2 in 27 appearances. She started all three games at No. 14 Baylor last weekend.
• Senior Kierra Miles is nine RBI shy of breaking the school's career RBI mark. She currently sits at 141 for her career.                                        Â
