Tech Picks Up Seven Academic All-Big 12 Selections

Senior Ryan Long is one of two in the the conference to earn the distinction three-straight years.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech baseball had seven student-athletes named to the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 teams, the league announced today.

Senior Ryan Long highlights this year's class, making it the third-straight year he's earned first team accolades. He completed the four-year academic sweep with the distinction, as he was selected to the conference's Academic All-Rookie team in 2014.

Joining Long in picking up first team nods include: juniors Tanner Gardner, Parker Mushinski and Jacob Patterson, along with sophomore Steven Gingery. Senior Hunter Hargrove and sophomore Cody Farhat were also named to the second team.

It is the second time Hargrove and Patterson have been named to their respective teams during their Red Raider careers.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second team selections hold a 3.00 or 3.19 GPA.

To quality, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshman and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

The Red Raiders wrap up the regular season on May 18-20 against Kansas at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
