The Red Raiders will take on the Cowboys on Wednesday, May 24, at 12:30 p.m. at the Big 12 Championship
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 4 Texas Tech baseball team has earned the top seed and will face Oklahoma State in the upcoming Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship in Oklahoma City.
Â
The Red Raiders (42-13, 16-8) will take on the Cowboys (26-25, 8-13) on Wednesday, May 24, at 12:30 p.m., in the second game of the tournament at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Â
It is the second-straight year the Red Raiders have been slotted as the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament. Last year, Tech put together a 19-5 conference record en route to the program's first Big 12 regular season title under head coach Tim Tadlock. On Saturday, the Red Raiders clinched the sixth overall championship in the program's history with a 9-4 win on senior day in front of a sold out Rip Griffin Park.
Â
Tech wrapped up the 2017 conference slate with a 16-8 record, sweeping the first and last series at Texas and against Kansas, respectively. The Red Raiders won four of the middle six Big 12 sets in between, two on the road and two at home. It was the first time since 2010-11 a team has won back-to-back Big 12 season crowns.
Â
Earlier this season, Oklahoma State swiped the series from the Red Raiders, winning the opening shootout at 12-10 and the rubber match in a tight 3-1 contest. Tech won the Saturday game behind an 8-2 output.
Â
Wednesday will be just the second time the two teams have met at the conference tournament, last doing so in the first year of Big 12 in 1997. In that meeting, the Red Raiders defeated the No. 12 Cowboys, 7-6.
Â
Tech has only won the tournament title once, coming in 1998. Tech defeated No. 18 Oklahoma (5-1) and No. 16 Baylor (11-4) in the first two rounds, before falling to No. 11 Texas A&M (11-7). The Red Raiders followed up by eliminating Oklahoma, 4-3, then took down the Aggies, 14-7, in the championship game.
Â
The Red Raiders will get another crack at it when they take the field at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark on Wednesday afternoon.
