Nilehn Makes Cut At European Tour Nordea Masters
June 02, 2017 | Men's Golf
MALMO, Sweden – Playing in his home country, Texas Tech's Fredrik Nilehn made the cut on Friday at the European Tour's Nordea Masters, which is being held at Barseback Golf & Country Club, in Malmo, Sweden.
Nilehn, who is playing as an amateur this weekend, shot an impressive 3-under 70 on day two to move to even par for the tournament and jump above the cut, which settled at 1-over. The tournament field includes notable pros Henrik Stenson, Alex Noren and Jamie Donaldson, who currently leads the way at -8.
Nilehn made his move on the back nine, getting birdie on the par-5 16th, par-4 17th and par-4 18th, which turned out to be just enough to move on to the weekend rounds.
He is scheduled to begin the third round tomorrow at 9 a.m., which is 2 a.m., CT, on the par-73, 7,729-yard course. He is just one shot away from being the low amateur.
Hannes Ronneblad, who just finished his senior season at Tech, was also in the field, but failed to make the cut, finishing at +5.
Ronneblad and Nilehn will also be in action June 9-11, representing Europe at the Arnold Palmer Cup, which will be held in Atlanta, Ga.
