Tech’s 3.7 team GPA earned President’s Special Recognition
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's golf team has been named a 2017 All-Academic Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), it was announced Wednesday.
The Red Raiders took it a step further by being one of just 39 teams nationwide to earn the President's Special Recognition for having a team GPA above 3.5 (3.7).
"An award like this makes a coach as proud as just about any accomplishment on the course," head coach Greg Sands said. "When we recruit, we look for high-integrity men who will be champions in the classroom, and it's evident we have a team full of those guys. I'm extremely proud of our team for achieving this honor."
This is the third-consecutive year in which the Red Raiders earned the team academic honor. A total of 187 teams submitted GPAs of 3.00 or higher to earn All-Academic Team recognition.
The Red Raiders also had a successful 2017 season on the course, featuring a pair of team titles and a pair of individual championships as well, culminating in earning the No. 2 seed at the NCAA College Grove Regional. The Red Raiders were ranked as high as No. 5 in the 2017 Golfstat rankings.
