LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech senior Fredrik Nilehn has been named to the watch list for the 2018 Ben Hogan Award, the most prestigious honor in collegiate golf.
Nilehn, ranked as one of the nation's top-25 players by both Golfstat (21) and Golfweek (24), is one of 27 of the nation's premier golfers on the list.
The Goteborg, Sweden, native is coming off a 2016-17 junior campaign in which he won two individual tournament titles and earned a spot on the Big 12 All-Tournament Team.
He also earned four top-10 finishes last season and finished with a scoring average of 72.33, the ninth-best mark in school history.
He has showed no signs of slowing down so far in 2018, with a scoring average of 69.9, and he has finished 13th or better individually in all four of Tech's tournaments this season.
Nilehn is the first Red Raider to make the watch list since Clement Sordet in 2015.
The No. 12 Red Raiders are back in action this weekend at the Desert Intercollegiate, which will take place Feb. 16-18, in Palm Springs, Calif.
