No. 12 Red Raiders Head West For Desert Intercollegiate
February 15, 2018 | Men's Golf
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 12 Texas Tech men's golf team continues their spring season this weekend with the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Wyoming. The tournament will be held Feb. 16-18, at the Classic Club in Palm Springs, Calif.
The Red Raiders took second at the Amer Ari Invitational in Kona, Hawaii, finishing 30-under par for the season opener two weeks ago. The tournament marked Texas Tech's second-straight top-two finish in Hawaii. Adam Blomme led the team carding 206 over 54 holes, tying for fifth place.
Fredrik Nilehn, the defending champion, also placed in the top 15—his fourth top-15 finish this season, part of the reason he was one of 27 golfers named to the Ben Hogan Award Watch List.
At last year's event, the Red Raiders finished third overall as a team and had two players finish in the top five--Federico Zucchetti and Hurly Long. Zucchetti and Long both shot 4-under par, tying for fifth place individually. As a team, the Red Raiders were one of just four squads to go under-par, finishing with an 8-under 280..
Tech is one of four top-25 teams in the event, joined by No.1 Oklahoma State, No. 14 California and No. 20 UCLA. The Classic Club is a par-72, 7,322-yard track.
The tournament will begin Friday, teeing off at 9 a.m. CT. Rounds two and three on Saturday and Sunday will also tee off at 9 a.m. CT.
Live stats and pairings will be available at golfstat.com. For news and updates on the Red Raiders, follow them on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
