Atwood, Hill, White, Keenan will represent Texas Tech in Colorado Springs.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Four members of the Texas Tech volleyball team will be attending the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts, which are taking place March 2-4 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Middle blockers Katy Keenan and Allison White and outside hitters Emily Hill and Chandler Atwood will represent the Red Raiders as 239 athletes from 89 schools converge on the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
At stake for the players is a chance to be a part of the U.S. Women's National Team and the U.S. Collegiate National Teams program. Each athlete will have one tryout session on Friday, one morning and afternoon session on Saturday and one morning session on Sunday.
"I'm happy we're able to send Katy, Chandler, Emily and Allison to Colorado Springs, and take part in the CNT tryouts," head coach Tony Graystone said. "This is a great opportunity for them to train with the best players in college volleyball and to work with some outstanding coaches. I know they're going to have a great weekend and will do everything they can to make an impression on the CNT coaches and represent the Red Raiders."
All sessions minus the USA training session on Sunday morning will be streamed live at www.TeamUSA.org. Fans can also follow on Team USA's social media platforms on Twitter (@USAVolleyball), Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat.
Keenan, a rising senior from Argyle, Texas, ranked sixth in the Big 12 in 2017 with an attack percentage of .324. Stepping into a leadership role as a junior, she set career marks in kills, attacks, hitting percentage, aces, digs and blocks in 2017.
Rotating along the frontline was White, who started all 34 matches as a freshman in 2017. Also of Argyle, Texas, she became the first Red Raider in the NCAA era to amass 100-plus blocks in a season, leading the team with 121 for the season, including 19 solo blocks. She closed the year fifth on the team in kills with a hitting percentage that ranked third on the team at .258.
Hill made an immediate impact as a sophomore in 2017 after transferring in from Mississippi State. The Denton, Texas, native started all 34 matches, leading the Red Raiders in kills with 416 and double-double with 14. She ranked fifth among all Big 12 underclassmen in kills per set and was Top 10 in the league overall.
Atwood blossomed into one of the team's top weapons in 2017 as a sophomore. The Allen, Texas, native was one of just four Red Raiders to appear in all 34 matches, finishing second on the team in kills. She ranked third among all Big 12 players in the postseason with 4.41 kills per set, going on a tear to close the year with double-digit kills in 11 of Tech's final 12 matches.
All four players are attending the tryout for the first time in their careers. Two Red Raiders attended the camp in 2017, including returning senior Missy Owens. The four attendees is the most for Tech since 2015 when seven Red Raiders attended the tryout.
