Oduduru Claims Second Big 12 Weekly Honor

Freshman Divine Oduduru garners his second Athlete of the Week honor from the Big 12 Conference.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech sprinter Divine Oduduru was named Athlete of the Week by the Big 12 Conference for his two school record performances last weekend at the Texas Tech Open. Â
"Divine continues to impress us," head coach Wes Kittley said. "He is a remarkable athlete, especially running that 20.18 in only his second indoor 200m race ever. We love to watch him race just as much as he loves racing."
As just a freshman, Oduduru has claimed not one, but five all-time records in the new Sports Performance Center this year.
In Friday's Texas Tech Open 60-meter competition, Oduduru kicked off the preliminary round with a 6.64 mark to top his previous No. 2 all-time 6.66 race from two weeks prior.
Moving into the final round, he improved to a new school record mark of 6.58, adjusted to 6.60 at altitude, which is tied for third in the nation this season. Oduduru had then inked his name in the No. 1, 3 and 4 spots on the indoor 60m records.
The next day, Oduduru continued to impress, this time clearing out his previous 20.49 school record 200m run with a new world-leading 20.18 mark. This run, adjusted to 20.25 at altitude, sits first in the nation by two-tenths of a second. The time also ranks third on the NCAA all-time record list.
The Red Raiders have claimed three Athlete of the Week accolades this year and will look to do so again in this weekend's competitions. The track & field program will host the Texas Tech Shootout, bringing in Abilene Christian, Air Force, Arizona, Arizona State, Butler Community College, Kansas State, North Texas, TCU, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and UTA for competition on Feb. 9-10.
