Nilehn, Long Named To European Palmer Cup Team

Nilehn makes the team for the second time
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 6 Texas Tech's men's golf team landed two Red Raiders, Fredrik Nilehn and Hurly Long, on the European Arnold Palmer Cup team, which was announced today.
The annual Ryder Cup-style competition will be played July 6-8 at Evian Resort Golf Club. The 2018 Arnold Palmer Cup will be the first using the expanded format of United States men's and women's collegiate golfers versus their counterparts from around the world.
The Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking automatically qualifies the top six players for both sides and uses Golfstat's NCAA Player Ranking as a base. The ranking awards bonus points for wins and high finishes, penalty for poor finishes, and contains a strength of schedule component.
The remaining four players for the United States were selected using three committee picks and one coaches pick. One of the U.S. committee picks had to be a non-Division I golfer. The final four spots on Team Europe consisted of the champion of The R&A Foundation Scholars Tournament, held April 3-4, two committee picks and one coaches pick.
Nilehn, by virtue of his national No. 4 ranking in Golfstat, was the top European in the Palmer Cup rankings. The Goteborg, Sweden, native was also a member of the 2017 team, where he was joined by former Red Raider Hannes Ronneblad. Nilehn's 69.5 scoring average ranks fourth among collegiate golfers. The Ben Hogan Award watch list member has earned at least a top-15 finish in each event this season.
Hurly Long, who started his season by breaking the course record at Pebble Beach with a second-round 61 at the Carmel Cup, was a committee selection. The Mannheim, Germany, native is carrying a scoring average of 70.8 this season, along with two top-10 finishes.
Tech returns to action April 7, at the Aggie Invitational, which will be held in Bryan, Texas.
