Softball Adds May Doubleheader at UTEP

Red Raiders will travel to El Paso Thursday, May 3, to close the regular season.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech softball will make up for a cancellation earlier this season by playing a doubleheader at UTEP on Thursday, May 3, starting at 1 p.m. at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex, the Red Raider softball program announced Wednesday.

The doubleheader will now mark the final two games of the regular season for Texas Tech, which previously had a bye week on tap for the final week of the season prior to the Big 12 Championships in Oklahoma City.

The Red Raiders missed out on a contest against Boston College on the first week of the season as winter weather impacted the final day of the Aggie Classic in College Station, Texas. Tech also suffered a postponement when its home opener against Abilene Christian on Feb. 21 was rescheduled to Tuesday, May 1, due to inclement weather.

UTEP (14-26, 4-11), meanwhile, lost a pair of contests in Boca Raton, Fla, on March 10.

The Red Raiders (21-18, 1-8) are headed to Austin this weekend where they'll take on in-state rival Texas in a Big 12 series Friday-Sunday.
