No. 5 Tech In Fifth Through 18 At El Macero

EL MACERO, Calif. – The No. 5 Texas Tech men's golf team sits in fifth after the first round of the El Macero Classic, at El Macero Country Club, in El Macero, Calif.
The Red Raiders (+15) sit 12 shots off the lead after an up-and-down first day in California. Playing as an individual, Thomas Allkins shot Texas Tech's low round of the day, a 1-over 73, which included four birdies. He is in sixth place overall.
Ivan Ramirez recorded three birdies en route to a 2-over 74, and he is tied for 10th, individually. Hurly Long (+3) is tied for 19th, and Sandy Scott, Adam Blomme and Kyle Hogan (+5) are all tied for 34th.
No team finished under par on Friday, as No. 24 UCLA (+8) and No. 31 TCU (+13) are well within striking distance. Nevada (+3) leads the way on the team side.
The Red Raiders will begin round two by teeing off the first hole at 12:50 p.m. CT on Saturday, led by Kyle Hogan. He will be followed by Blomme, Scott, Long and Ramirez. Allkins will tee off at 3:20 p.m. CT, off the first hole as well.
