Nine Golfers Recognized on Academic All-Big 12 Teams

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech had nine student-athletes between its men's and women's golf teams honored Tuesday on the Academic All-Big 12 teams that were announced by the conference office.

Senior women's golfer Lauren Mason, sophomore men's golfer Sandy Scott and redshirt freshman Kyle Hogan headlined the list of honorees as they were three of 10 conference student-athletes nominated with a perfect 4.000 grade-point average. It marked the first Academic All-Big 12 selection for both Scott and Hogan and the third for Mason.

Scott and Hogan were joined on the first team from the men's side by seniors Hurly Long and Fredrik Nilehn as well as junior Ivan Ramirez. Fellow senior Wes Artac was recognized on the second team.

Mason, meanwhile was joined on the first team by junior Mami Yamamoto, who earned the honor for a second-consecutive season. Gabby Barker completed Tech's list of honorees as she earned second team accolades.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA either cumulative or over the previous two semesters.

Eligible student-athletes must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
