No. 12 Tech Slips To Seventh At Big 12 Championship
April 24, 2018 | Men's Golf
TULSA, Okla. – The No. 12 Texas Tech Men's Golf team slipped from sixth to seventh on the leaderboard after the third round of the 2018 Big 12 Championship, at Southern Hills Country Club, in Tulsa, Okla.
The Red Raiders (+38) struggled out of the gate, mustering just one birdie as a team through the first nine holes. The Red Raiders are in seventh place, and five of the teams they trail are in the nation's top 31, according to Golfstat.
On the back nine, Adam Blomme fired three birdies in a row on Nos. 14, 15 and 16, but it served to cancel out a triple bogey on No. 9. He finished with a 73, and is now +8 for the tournament, tied for 21st.
"This game," Tech head coach Greg Sands said. "Sometimes little things turn out to make a big difference on the scoreboard, and that's what's happening. We have to control what we can control, and a lot of that is attitude. We haven't been doing that across the board so far."
Sandy Scott (+12, T37) also shot a 73, tying Blomme for the low round of the day among the Red Raiders. For the second-straight round, Hurly Long's (+11, T33) front nine consisted of nine pars, but he went +4 on the back to card a 74. Ivan Ramirez (+10, T31) also shot a 74, and Kyle Hogan (+12, T37) registered a 5-over 75.
Tech will tee off from hole No. 10 in tomorrow's final round, at 8:22 a.m., paired with Kansas. The order will be Hogan, Scott, Long, Ramirez and Blomme, in nine-minute increments.
Golfstat will handle live scoring for the duration of the tournament. For more news and updates on Texas Tech Men's Golf, follow the team on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
