Four Lady Raiders Named All-Big 12

Two singles and two doubles teams earn Big 12 postseason awards
IRVING, Texas – Two singles players and two doubles teams earned spots on the All-Big 12 Tennis teams following another successful regular season, the league officials announced Thursday afternoon.

"I'm so proud of these young ladies. These awards are just proof of how much hard work and dedication this team puts toward the program," Head Coach Todd Petty said.

Senior Gabriela Talaba earned first team singles honors for the second straight season and the third time in her career. She has been selected to an All-Big 12 team every year since arriving at Texas Tech. This season, Talaba has posted a 13-8 record, 12 of those wins coming during dual match play.

Sabrina Federici picked up All-Big 12 second team singles honors for the second straight year. Federici posted a 16-3 record overall and was 5-1 in conference action. Federici clinched the first singles point against Kansas State in the opening round of the Big 12 tournament.

In doubles, Federici and Sarah Dvorak were named to the All-Big 12 First Team for the first time in their careers. The duo went 10-8 with a 4-1 record against conference rivals at the No. 1 position. Their highest ranked win of the season came against No. 16 Lindsey Hodge and Wendy Zhang of Rice.

Doubles pair Talaba and Felicity Maltby were named to the All-Big 12 First Team for the second straight year after posting a 20-4 record and going a perfect 7-0 in Big 12 play. The two had a 14-match win streak going before falling to Marta Perez-Mur and Dani Wagland (Texas) during the Big 12 Championship match.

The Lady Raiders are set to host the NCAA First and Second Rounds at the McLeod Tennis Center this weekend. Texas Tech will face Army West Point on Friday at 1 p.m. Fans can purchase tickets on-site for $5 (adults) and $3 (youth – 12 and under).

Illinois and Princeton will begin the four-team regional with a 10 a.m. first serve on Friday. The two winners will meet on Saturday at 1 p.m. for a chance to advance to the NCAA Round of 16 in Winston-Salem, NC, on Thursday, May 17.
