2018 marks the fifth straight year the program has had six or more student-athletes awarded first team honors, the longest active streak in the Big 12.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Eight student-athletes from the Texas Tech softball program were recognized on the Academic All-Big 12 teams, announced by the league office Thursday.
Â
Six Red Raiders earned first team honors, including senior Allison Knopp, juniors Jessica Hartwell, Kenzie Davis and sophomores Karli Hamilton, Michaela Cochran and Kassidy Scott. Senior Kaylee Strickland and junior Kiana Workman earned second team awards.
Â
This marks the fifth straight year the program has had six or more student-athletes awarded first team honors, the longest active streak among Big 12 softball programs. All six Red Raiders on the first team are appearing there for the first time in their careers.
Â
Hartwell is being recognized for the third straight year after taking Academic All-Big Rookie Team honors in 2016 and a second team nod last season. This is the second academic accolade for Davis, Hamilton, Scott, Strickland and Workman, and the first time Knopp and Cochran have been eligible.
Â
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or over the previous two seasons.
Â
Each student-athlete must have also participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
