Three Jumpers to Compete at USATF Juniors
June 15, 2018 | Track and Field
Three Red Raiders compete for chance to represent U.S. in Finland.
On the women's side, Tech will have two athletes competing in the long jump. G'Auna Edwards, a freshman, competed in six outdoor meets for the Red Raiders. She placed second at the Texas Tech Corky/Crofoot Shootout with a personal-best 6.32m/20-9 before going on to score eight points at the Big XII Outdoor Championships with another runner-up mark. Edwards enters with the second-highest seed in the event.
She will be joined in the long jump by fellow freshman Chelsey Cole. She walked away from her opening outdoor campaign with a PR of 6.18m/20-3.5. Cole will also compete in the triple jump at Indiana, in which she owns a career best of 12.57m/41-3.
The men's team will be represented by high jumper Jake Benninghoff. The freshman participated in seven meets during the spring outdoor season, ultimately scoring at the Big XII Outdoor Championships with an outdoor PR of 2.11m/6-11. His overall personal best of 2.16m/7-1, which was set at the Red Raider Invitational during indoor season, has him seeded sixth among the competitors in Bloomington.
Edwards and Cole will begin the weekend with the long jump at 2:45 p.m. ET on Saturday. Cole's triple jump and Benninghoff's high jump will both begin at 2:45 p.m. ET on Sunday. Live results will be available here, and, with a paid membership, the meet webcast can be viewed here.
