Red Raiders Move to No. 25 in Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll
September 28, 2018 | Men's Golf
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's golf team is ranked No. 25 in this week's Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll after the first two tournaments of the fall season.
The Red Raiders are coming off a second-place finish at the Showdown in the Rockies where junior Sandy Scott took fourth individually after carding a 67—73-68 – 208 and redshirt sophomore Kyle Hogan was seventh (68-74-71 – 213). Texas Tech had started the season by finishing seventh at The Carmel Cup at Pebble Beach, led by senior Ivan Ramirez who shot 8-under-par during his 54 holes for ninth-place individually.
"I really love the team's work ethic and their chemistry together," Texas Tech coach Greg Sands said. "We still need to keep working on wedges and putting though to be a dynamic team."
There are five Big 12 teams in this week's poll, including No. 1-ranked Oklahoma State which is atop the poll for the eighth straight week. Oklahoma comes in at No. 2, while Texas is eighth and Baylor is 24th. The next Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll will be released October 19.
Texas Tech will return to competition at the Big 12 Match Play Championship in Houston on Oct. 12-14 at The Golf Club at Houston Oaks. The team then concludes its fall schedule at the Isleworth Collegiate on Oct. 21-23 in Orlando, Florida before a break that will see them return for the spring season at the Amer Ari Invitational in February in Kona, Hawaii.
