J.T. and Margaret Talkington Leadership Academy will once again feature career development for Texas Tech student-athletes this spring
LUBBOCK, Texas – The J.T. and Margaret Talkington Leadership Academy added two members to its staff Monday with the hiring of Destini Dulin as an assistant director for career and student-athlete development and Jessica Gray as an assistant director for community and character development.
Â
Dulin and Gray complete the leadership academy's staff heading into the spring semester. Red Raider student-athletes will have multiple student-athlete development opportunities focused in areas such as mental health, financial literacy and leadership among others. The Suited for Success Career Series enters its fifth year this spring with six sessions for upperclassmen.
Â
"Our goal has always been to develop and help grow our student-athletes on the field, in the classroom and beyond," said Amy Heard, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Leadership Development. "The addition of both Destini and Jessica will help the leadership academy continue to focus on character, community, career and overall life and leadership skills."
Â
Dulin joins the department after spending nearly two years at the University of Arkansas where she was an assistant in the student-athlete development office. Dulin helped coordinate career development initiatives for Razorback student-athletes, including resume and cover letter building, mock interviews, and potential internship and career opportunities during her time in Fayetteville.
Â
Dulin, a University of Oklahoma graduate, oversaw the WHOLE Women program, which was designed to help empower female student-athletes to develop personally and professionally. She planned the annual HOGSPY Awards show, while also serving as an advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Â
Gray, meanwhile, arrives in Lubbock after spending the past year as a student-athlete development associate at George Washington University in Washington D.C. Gray served as the life skills coordinator during her year in the nation's capital, while also overseeing the department's community service activities and its mentorship program.
Â
Prior to George Washington, Gray spent roughly nine years in various positions at her alma mater, Temple University in Philadelphia. Gray began her career as a team manager and then graduate assistant manager for the Owls' men's basketball program before serving as a compliance and student-athlete affairs coordinator and then as an advisor to the student-athlete advisory committee.
Â
The J.T. and Margaret Talkington Leadership Academy tabbed Lamarr Pottinger as its Assistant Athletics Director in charge of the program this past August. In addition to Pottinger, the staff also features assistant director Vicky McKenzie and coordinator Sable Lee.
