ORLANDO – Patrick Mahomes II's reign over the NFL continued Sunday afternoon as the former Texas Tech signal caller was named the Offensive MVP of the annual Pro Bowl game held at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.
Â
Mahomes earned the start in his first career Pro Bowl appearance before completing 7-of-14 passes for a game-high 156 yards and a touchdown. His lone touchdown came on an 18-yard strike to Colts' tight end Eric Ebron on the opening possession, propelling the AFC to an eventual 26-7 victory over its NFL counterparts.
Â
Mahomes remained in the game through early in the second quarter, capping his day with a 7-play, 74-yard scoring drive capped by a 1-yard touchdown run by Chiefs' fullback Anthony Sherman, who also caught three passes for 92 yards.
Â
Â
Mahomes led the Chiefs to a 12-4 record during the regular season, giving Kansas City homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. The Chiefs dropped the Colts, 31-13, in the divisional round before falling in overtime the following week to the New England Patriots, 37-31.
Â
After such a strong debut, Mahomes has been considered a possible favorite for NFL MVP honors. He will learn his MVP fate this upcoming Saturday during the NFL Honors telecast that airs at 8 p.m. CT on CBS.
Â
LaAdrian Waddle will represent Tech the following night when he and the Patriots face the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII. Kickoff is slated for 5:30 p.m. CT from Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. This is the 10th-straight year a Red Raider has competed in the Super Bowl and the third-consecutive season for Waddle and the Patriots.

Â
The Offensive MVP honor is only one highlight in Mahomes' impressive debut as Kansas City's starter after he became only the third quarterback in NFL history to throw for 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns during the regular season. Dating back to his tenure at Tech, Mahomes is the only quarterback in history to record 5,000 passing yards at both the collegiate and NFL levels. Can't stop, won't stop throwing TDs. ??
