January 03, 2019 | Softball
The Katy, Texas, native becomes the seventh signee for the Red Raiders.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech softball head coach Adrian Gregory finalized her 2019 signing class Thursday with the signing of outfielder Tori Whillock.
Â
Whillock, one of two signees from Katy, Texas, in the 2019 Red Raider signing class, becomes the third outfielder to sign with the Red Raiders, joining Missouri City's Payton Jackson and Keller's Amanda DeSario.
Â
Whillock will link up in Lubbock with fellow Katy teammate Chloe Cobb, who signed with the Red Raiders in November. The duo were key members of what MaxPreps.com ranked as the nation's No. 1 program during the 2018 season, finishing the year 39-4 overall with a perfect 12-0 district mark.
Â
"Tori is an athletic outfielder that will be a threat on both sides of the ball," head coach Adrian Gregory said. "She can run most any ball down in the grass as well as put pressure on a defense while at the plate. She, along with Payton and Amanda, will bring so much competition and depth to our outfield. Tori is a great kid that comes from an athletic family that knows what it takes to be successful at this level! I look forward to seeing what this kid can do on a daily basis!"
Â
Whillock earned First Team All-District 19-6A honors both her junior and sophomore years and received a nod to the second team as a freshman. She won two national championships with club teams, first with the Texas Kaos in 2013 and later with the Texas Bombers in 2016.
Â
Her family has a strong athletic background as her father, Kirk, played football at Arkansas and her mother, Judy, won the 1987 NCAA Softball National Championship at Texas A&M and is inducted into the Aggie Athletic Hall of Fame. The youngest of three siblings, Whillock plans to major in business.
