Anderson, White Pick Up Big 12 Honors
October 15, 2019 | Women's Soccer
Tech defender and keeper pick up weekly conference honors as Tech leads Big 12 in awards.
IRVING, Texas – Big 12 weekly award mainstay Madison White was joined by another Red Raider this week as Hannah Anderson was named the Freshman of the Week by the conference. White was named the Defensive Player of the Week for her fourth-consecutive weekly award from the Big 12.
Tech now leads the conference in selections with six – all of which have come within the last month.
"Good things come to people who work really hard," said head coach Tom Stone. "Our league is so good, and the Big 12 is loaded with good players, so I'm just glad some of our players are being recognized at this time."
White's selection as the conference's top defensive player comes after adding two more shutouts to her stat line last weekend. The freshman recorded a clean sheet Thursday at West Virginia to help Tech down the Mountaineers in Morgantown for the first time in program history. She made two saves in the effort. Three days later, she kept the back of the net untouched for 110 minutes in a scoreless draw with Kansas. The Sunday afternoon matchup required many more saves, as she tied her young career's high in the category with seven. Both performances included highlight-reel diving saves from the freshman.
White has now shut out four of five Big 12 opponents she has faced. Her 0.31 goals-against average places her top in the conference, as well as first in program history for a single season. In addition to leading the Big 12 in GAA, she is ranked first in save percentage with a mark of .913.
While White kept a clean sheet in Morgantown, Anderson was the one who lit up the scoreboard to gain the three big road points for Tech. The score came on a penalty kick after Demi Koulizakis was taken down inside the 18-yard box. Anderson, a native of Plano, stepped to the line and converted her third PK of the season.
Her recognition as the Big 12's top freshman in week eight is the first conference award of her career.
White and Anderson will return to the field Friday for an exciting home matchup with TCU. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the John Walker Soccer Complex, where Texas Tech Soccer will be celebrating its 25th anniversary. Tickets are available here.
