Davis Named Semifinalist for MAC Hermann Trophy

Kirsten Davis listed one of 15 semifinalists for collegiate soccer’s highest honor.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The United Soccer Coaches announced Tuesday that Kirsten Davis is one of 15 semifinalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy. Davis is Texas Tech's second-ever semifinalist for collegiate soccer's highest award.
"I am extremely honored and humbled to be named a semifinalist," Davis said. "I am very appreciative to be part of this list with some of the most incredible players in the country, but this would not even be possible without my incredible teammates and coaching staff. I view this recognition as a team award and am just so blessed to be a part of this team that I love so much."
Davis has broken out in 2019 in every way hoped for by the Texas Tech staff. A 5-foot-10 forward from St. Louis, Davis used her strong sophomore season (seven goals, seven assists) to springboard into an explosive junior campaign. She was hot from the beginning, putting up five-point games three times during the course of non-conference play (at SDSU, vs. ORU, vs. UC Irvine). Davis broke the program record for fastest scoring start, knocking in nine goals in the team's first nine games.
She was far from finished, too, as she went on to tally a pair of goals at Baylor to lead Tech to its first win in Waco since 2007, then another against the Bears to book the Red Raiders a spot in the Big 12 Championship semi-finals. In Big 12 play, she totaled six goals and an assist. Davis finished the fall with 38 points – good for fourth in program history for a single-season. She tallied 16 goals, just two from the all-time program scoring record, while tying the school record for game-winners with six.
Davis was the conference's regular season scoring leader, making her a more than appropriate choice for the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. She was the third Red Raider to win the award, the other two belonging to former two-time MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist Janine Beckie.
"Kirsten has developed into a terrific collegiate goal scorer and creates so many additional chances for her teammates as well," said head coach Tom Stone. "We are thrilled for her to be recognized after such a wonderful season."
