November 08, 2019 | Women's Basketball
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raider basketball team announced that two-time WNBA Champion head coach Brian Agler and renowned sports anchor and reporter Cindy Brunson will join the team's broadcast crew for seven games during the 2019-20 season.
Â
"This is a special day for Lady Raider Basketball," head coach Marlene Stollings said. "By adding Cindy and Brian, we have taken another giant leap forward in returning this program back to national prominence. Their expertise will give our fans unique insight at the highest level. We are ecstatic to have such extraordinary talent joining the movement."
Â
Brunson and Agler will be on the call for three of the Lady Raiders' nonconference games, including the season opener against Sam Houston State (Nov. 14) and contests against Ole Miss (Dec. 4) and Houston Baptist (Dec. 15). Also on the slate are four conference games against Iowa State (Jan. 3), Kansas State (Jan. 11), Oklahoma State (Feb. 1) and West Virginia (March 4).
Â
Agler, having just concluded his first season as head coach of the WNBA's Dallas Wings, brings a wealth of basketball experience and expertise to the broadcast booth. He has been a head coach in the WNBA for the last 12 years, and boasts WNBA Championships with the Seattle Storm (2010) and Los Angeles Sparks (2016), as well as two ABL titles. The 2010 WNBA Coach of the Year is the winningest coach in U.S. women's professional basketball, and also spent 15 seasons coaching in the collegiate ranks with stops at Kansas State and UMKC.
Â
"I am very excited to be a part of the Lady Raider broadcast crew," Agler said. "I've known Marlene Stollings for years. She is a great person, a great basketball mind, and has put together a tremendous staff and a much-improved roster. There is an obvious energy within the program. Â I'm anxious to see this success unfold in front of our eyes. I am also excited to work with and learn from the renowned, talented and experienced broadcaster, Cindy Brunson. This all will be a tremendous experience."
Having worked with some of the most recognizable brands in the industry, Brunson is one of the premiere sports broadcasters in the country. Based in Phoenix, Brunson currently works for the Pac-12 Network doing play-by-play for women's basketball and softball, and sideline reporting for football and men's basketball. She also spent 13 years at ESPN where she worked as an anchor for the network's flagship program SportsCenter, as well as serving as host for First Take and College Basketball Live.
Â
"I'm thrilled to be a part of the Lady Raiders TV broadcast crew," Brunson said. "Over my career at ESPN and the Pac-12 Network, I've gotten to know two-time WNBA Champion head coach Brian Agler really well and can't wait to learn more about the game from him right along with Lady Raider Nation. As a huge women's basketball fan, I've watched Marlene Stollings brilliant offensive mind and program building from afar, and am privileged to have a front row seat as she turns the 'Movement to March' hashtag into reality!"
Â
Brunson and Agler will be on the air for the Lady Raiders' season opener on Nov. 14 against Sam Houston State at United Supermarkets Arena. The game is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on FOX Sports Southwest. Tickets are available for $1.
