December 10, 2019 | Women's Volleyball
Senior Emily Hill was named All-Southwest Region honorable mention.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech volleyball's Emily Hill was recognized on Tuesday (Dec. 10) by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as a member of the All-Region honorable mention squad.
Â
The All-Big 12 second-team standout was one of 16 student-athletes from the Big 12 Conference to earn AVCA honors and is one of 12 league competitors honored in the Southwest Region.
Â
Hill joins former Tech standouts Missy Owens (2018), Lauren Douglass (2015-16), Rachel Brummitt (2014) and Rochelle Kaaiai (1991) as the fifth Red Raider in program history to earn the honorable mention nod.
Hill kicked off opening weekend with a whopping 66 kills at the Sports Imports Classic at the campus of Ohio State. Her efforts up north earned her tournament MVP honors as well as the league's first Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week award on September 3.
Â
Hill was solid throughout the entirety of the Red Raiders' league matches as she posted 15 of her 29 double-digit kill performances against Big 12 opponents. She produced nine double-double outings against nine conference challengers and finished the regular season second in the league with 4.23 kills per set and third overall with 4.70 points per set. Behind the service line, she ranked ninth in the league with 0.24 aces per set.
Â
Hill also reached a pair of milestones this season. In Tech's first meeting against Baylor, Hill became one of four Red Raiders in program history to record 1,000 digs and 1,000 kills. The match also saw the 1,500th kill of her career thanks to her 13-kill, seven-dig performance.
Â
Tech's senior outside hitter will go down as one of the most successful student-athletes in program history. Hill leaves Tech with 1,640 kills (1,258 of which were just as a Red Raider), 1,094 digs, 93 aces and 204 blocks.
Â
Graystone's squad finished the season with a 17-13 overall record and a 7-9 mark in Big 12 Conference play. Tech finished fifth in the league, which is the Red Raiders' highest finish in the Big 12 in program history.
